Bonnie JeanLongaberger Review - Using old roots to produce new profits

Thirty-five years, the Longaberger Company began but today's society continues to be based in the roots and traditions in the beginning. This mission was created when the company had begun to stimulate a better quality of life "and the company continues to remain true to this goal.

Currently, the company offers a variety of crafts, including wrought iron accessories, pottery and basketry, and provides opportunities for self-employment to about 45,000 Home Consultants.

Company History

Longaberger family settled in the village active in Dresden, Ohio, at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains in 1896. The container of choice for the common achievement of pottery at the time was in the basket. JW Longaberger began working at the factory to become a full-time apprentice and learn the craft that would become his trademark. In 1927, JW married Bonnie Jean Gist, a girl he met while working at the factory.

The Great Depression closed the factory gates, forcing JW to find work at the paper mill, but he still makes baskets in his free time. In 1936, he bought the plant and Bonnie old basket, which they renamed The Ohio Society basketry. Bonnie and JW had 12 children during their life together. Dave, the fifth child born, was not only disadvantaged by low family economic status, but also because he suffered from epilepsy and a stutter bad. This did not prevent the ambitious nature of Dave. He consistently took odd jobs to earn money as a young boy.

As Dave was going on in life, he served two years in the army and ended up driving a truck roll. After his daughter was born Tami, Dave and his wife bought the dairy bar in Dresden, and a former grocery store. Together they have renovated the building and grocery store reopened as Dresden IGA Foodliner. Both companies have been the way it provides for its own growing family. In the 1970s, he recognized that the baskets were again increasingly popular, and he asked his father to make baskets to sell for him. They could not keep enough stock of baskets because they have become so popular that they sold immediately. JW did not live to see the full extent of the company Cart Dave has been building in that it died when they start.

In 1976, Dave opened JW Handwoven Baskets. He expanded the factory to include the old woolen mill where his mother had worked when he was a child. To develop its business basket, Dave knew he needed to sell in other places, not just locally. In 1978, the direct sales model of Longaberger baskets was born when Dave had the best showcase for the baskets has been consulting home.

Dave's daughter Tami joined the company in 1984 and was appointed president in 10 years only. She helped the company diversify into other areas of life at home. The company is now the foremost manufacturer of home-made hand-made, including baskets.
