How to make a dining room hutch old new look?? My hutch dining room is old, stained and knicked. How can I paint or finish to make it look new?
Is a clear pine color (already finished). I have 9 years and children have beaten pretty bad. I want to make it stain it or paint finish to make it look new when we move into our new house next month. But I do know where to start or how this will be labor. Advice appreciated!
If you like the color and finish and you want a quick solution for it, you can try this. Take 1-1 pieces 1 / 2 boiled linseed oil and 2 parts low odor mineral spirits. Put it in a container that you can get your hand you may want to wear a glove Playtex. Soak the wood steel 0.0000 in the mix and rub with the grain of the wood. The spirits are very clean and linseed oil to cover and hide a lot of scratches. This work very well with the restoration of furniture and kitchen cabinets look so old again restored.
Hard to tell without looking.
Is this a valuable piece or is it just a Home Depot / Ikea crib-like particle board?
If it is sealed with a polyurethane finish (a shiny, plastic coating type), you'll have to strip and sand before closing and restain.
Best is probably to paint. Buy a good introduction, and put a coat on this couple. Then, take a good color and painting. May require multiple coats.
Good luck!
You may want to wait until you move so that the new finish is not damaged during transport.
Painting is probably the easiest way to change its appearance. You will need to fill dents or deep Knicks, the brilliant sand off and then before I paint. You can select an eggshell or semi-gloss finish. It is easier to clean and a reduction of the imperfections of high gloss. You can always add a clear coat to seal one of protecting the paint.
There should be no more than a weekend project, assuming you do not have a million interruptions.
Have fun with it.
