6. Today, they support a VGA resolution of shit a good 720p 1080p better.

First, they save space. They became the standard thing to buy - the same way that DVD took over VHS - im not sure you can buy over the old. You can also get a much clearer picture, and as far as I know, they are more energy efficient.
