Jewelry Chest

Jewelry ChestHow do I get cigarette smoke damage off an antique jewelry box?

The timber and the liner are quite badly damaged by years of cigarette smoke and I try to clean and get rid of the smell, tips?

Vinegar. You can use both the liner and timber. Use the following mixture on the wood. To clean wood, use a mixture of 1 / 2 cup olive oil, 1 / 2 cup vinegar and 2 cups of warm water. Apply to wood with a soft cloth, then wipe with a clean cloth seconds.

I suggest a mixture of vinegar and baking soda to clean the surface. You want to get somewhere to let it dry completely. It does not hurt the liner or timber.

The vinegar and baking soda both work as deordorizers.

The damage you describe is mostly fat tar in cigarettes. A solvent such as mineral spirits should do the trick, but not as much as to remove the varnish underneath.
