I have my Xbox 360 connected to a Sony Bravia TV, and theater at home is also connected to the TV, but I do not use the HDMI cable for connection.

This means you can split the audio signal from your home theater system using an optical cable for 5.1 surround sound, then use the standard HDMI plug into your TV.

This is the best way that I see. Is there a particular reason why you do not want to use the HDMI cable? If you really do not want to use HDMI, may use the standard Xbox video output cable (which has the optical output included), but it's not as good as HDMI video.
