Furniture Designers Association What is furniture design all about? Is it only for furniture designers?
The Furniture Association first began October 25, 1917, where she made her first constitution and bylaws. However, it was conceptualized in 1916 in Grand Rapids, known as the city for the manufacture of furniture by a local manufacturer of Robert W. Irwin. He wanted to promote a good relationship between the manufacturer and designer furniture. Subsequently, he organized a meeting between the two groups, which has been successful, three furniture designers William L. Kimerly, J. Stuart Clingman and Thomas Handley determined to form an association for the benefit of both designers and manufacturers. They encouraged the local furniture designers to join the association. Thus, the Grand Rapids Association was formed and E. Berkey Jones was elected to the presidency, the owner of William A. Co. Berkey along eighteen qualified furniture designers and all members of the Association of Furniture Manufacturers have been admitted as members contract.
Membership
The members of this association was restricted to only local furniture designers of Grand Rapids. In 1920, the Furniture Association has been restructured and the composition has been given to all creators certified in the United States. Initially, the associate membership was granted to suppliers and subsequently granted to students in furniture design. The need for good forecasting forced many designers out in the form of Grand Rapids. Currently, there are many furniture designers in Grand Rapids, designing primarily for the furniture market in High Point South, North Carolina.
Principles
In 1926, Thomas Johnson, the president said that the objective and purpose of the designers of Grand Rapids furniture is to cooperate and work for the welfare of standardized designs for furniture and buildings. Currently the association is working to stabilize the standards of furniture design and knowledge and to educate the work in the field of furniture designers. It has about 90 members, which led to more frequent meetings, usually five in one year. The best final year student of Kendall College of Art and Design at Ferris State University located in downtown Grand Rapids was awarded $ 1,500 each year in December.

It was established in 1981 as an international nonprofit professional. It works to improve the support and advancement in furniture design. The memberships are not just limited to American furniture designers, but also international professional designers can become a member of the American Society of Furniture Designers.
Chicago Furniture Designers Association
The Chicago Furniture Designers Association is formed to encourage the arts and crafts furniture design innovative in raising community of designers and furniture manufacturers. Meetings are held on every second Tuesday of each month. At the Association of Chicago Furniture Designers to meet and exchange ideas and information on the designs of furniture and needed to broaden their expertise. The association also organizes exhibitions for certified members. Finally, the association encourages the designers to work to expand their interests in furniture design.
